Mahler’s hut, perched high above the valley of Alpine fir, horn echoes in the primeval forest. A Nibelungian hoard of precious emerald ambers.

Deciduous tree and conifer scents draw us back to a time when the Eurasian Peninsula was covered by vast forests. They are often the setting for fairy tales and great myth cycles. Entering the forest is an unknown – it parallels the inward search of the mystic. Austrian Jewish composer Gustav Mahler, whose music transitioned classical music from ornate romance to modernism, explored many personal connections to Teutonic Mythology and the natural world. He composed epic symphonies and song cycles in huts high in the Alps in summertime, channeling Chinese poetry, folktales, and German Romantic writers into deeply autobiographical music that has become universal in the classical repertoire.

Notes: alpine cedar, cardamom, green mandarin, geranium, European larch, temple cone, Austrian pine, opoponax, musk
